RTI has been designated by the EPA as an authorized representative of the Agency. Accordingly, RTI will have access to information provided to the EPA in response to this request. As a designated representative of the Agency, RTI is subject to the provisions of 42 U.S.C. 7414(c) respecting confidentiality of methods or processes entitled to protection as trade secrets. RTI is an independent nonprofit organization performing research in many disciplines for government, industry and other clients throughout the United States and abroad. RTI conducts research that responds to priorities in health and medicine, advanced technologies, environmental protection, and public policy. The staff of 1,450 represents a highly diverse set of technical capabilities, and two-thirds of the research staff have advanced degrees. These scientists and engineers are adept at working in multidisciplinary teams, often in collaboration with university and industry researchers, to meet the unique requirements of each R&D effort. They are active in many aspects of social, economic, statistical, chemical, life, environmental, electronic, and engineering sciences. The RTI main campus occupies 565,000 square feet of laboratory and office facilities in the center of North Carolina's Research Triangle park. A separate organization, the Research Triangle Foundation, promotes and develops the park, which has become the site for 100 other industrial, governmental, and university-related research installations.
